Community guidelines
The GoutSafe community is for people managing gout to share what they actually eat, what gets them through a flare and what changed their numbers. Six rules keep it useful.
Share experience, not instructions. "This is what happened to me" is the whole point. "You should do this" is not, especially about medication. Say what you did and how it went, and leave the deciding to the reader and their doctor.
No medication-change advice. Do not tell anyone to start, stop, skip or change a dose of any medication. You can describe your own experience of a medication. Threads about treatment open with a reminder of this line.
No cure claims. Gout is managed, not cured by a food or a supplement. A post that promises a cure will be removed.
No selling. No products, services, referral codes or affiliate links for your own benefit. Links to things you found useful are fine. Every member link is marked as user-generated so search engines give it no weight.
Be kind. People post here mid-flare, newly diagnosed or scared. Assume good faith, and skip the "it's your fault" line. Gout is mostly about how your body clears uric acid, which is largely genetic.
See a doctor for a diagnosis. If you are reading this wondering whether a hot, swollen joint is gout, the community can tell you that you are not alone. A diagnosis needs a doctor, and a joint that is hot and swollen with a fever needs one promptly.
The community is unmoderated at launch. GoutSafe removes posts that break these rules and bans accounts that keep breaking them. Reading never needs an account. Posting needs one, with a display name of your choice. What you post is public under that name. The health data notice says what is stored and how to delete it.
Experiences here can support, but never replace, your doctor's advice.
