What actually changed things for you: diet, medication or both?

Oliver

When your gout finally got better (or even a bit better), what did it? Diet, meds, losing weight, some mix?

Share what happened for you. And talk to your doctor before you change anything with your meds.

Medication, for me. I'm on allopurinol, 200 mg a day, and it's the reason I get to live a pretty normal life. Flares are rare now. Still terrible when one shows up, but rare.

I was pretty anti-medication at first. I tried DASH (basically vegetarian) and it barely moved my uric acid. I also work out most days and I'm about 170 lb at 5'11", so there wasn't a ton to fix there either.

The research I read building GoutSafe says diet moves uric acid by about 1 mg/dL on average. Tracks with me. It still matters around the edges - I went from 3 or 4 drinks a week to 1 or 2 a month.

I'm not a doctor, so talk to yours before changing anything. This is just what happened for me.
